Term | Definition |
Clip | A brief recorded file, linked to a website or to an electronic message, used to relay audible information from one user to another. |
Track | is an audio signal communications channel in a storage device, used in operations such as multi-track recording and sound reinforcement. |
Decibel (dB) | a unit used to measure the intensity of a sound or the power level of an electrical signal by comparing it with a given level on a logarithmic scale. |
Effect | are artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media. |
Noise | refers to the residual low-level sound (four major types: hiss, rumble, crackle, and hum) that is heard in quiet periods of program. |
Sample Rate | is the number of samples of audio carried per second, measured in Hz or kHz (one kHz being 1 000 Hz) |
Export | will convert your audio to a commercial standard that is used by many different programs and/or products |

AUP | is a file extension for a project file used by Audacity audio software |
Amplify | to change the volume of the selected audio track(s). Amplify always preserves the relative volumes of the tracks and/or channels |
Hertz (Hz) | the SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second |
LAME | LAME is an encoder that converts audio to the MP3 file format |
Mixing | is the process by which multiple sounds are combined into one or more channels |
Pitch | is a perceptual property of sounds that allows their ordering on a frequency-related scale, or more commonly, pitch is the quality that makes it possible to judge sounds as "higher" and "lower" in the sense associated with musical melodies. |
Podcast | a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically. |
Trim | refers to changing the level of a signal (up or down) to more appropriately align it for a particular device |
