Question | Answer |
What is a wave? | A disturbance that transfers energy. |
What is the medium? | The material that a wave travels through. |
What is a transverse wave? | Particles that move perpendicularly to the direction the wave travels. |
What is the crest? | The highest point of a transverse wave. |
What is the trough? | The lowest point of a transverse wave. |
What is a longitudinal wave? | Particles that move parallel (Back and Forth) in the same direction that the wave travels. |
What is compression? | Particles squeezed together. |
What is rarefaction? | Particles stretched out. |
What is amplitude? | The measure of how far energy a wave carries. |
What is wavelength? | The distance from any point on a wave to the next identical point on the same wave. |
How do you calculate wave speed? | wave speed= wave length x frequency |
What is frequency | The number of waves that pass a point in a given amount of time. |
If your time is is 4 cm/s and work is 52 joules, what is the time? | 13s = 52j / 4cm |
if the frequency is 50Hz and the wavelength was 5cm, what is the speed? | 250= 50hz x 5cm |
What is a mechanical wave? | Waves that require a medium. |
What is an electromagnetic wave? | Waves that do not require mediums. |
What is force and what do you measure it in? | Pusher or pull on an object to change the motion of an object. You measure it in Newtons. |
What is work and what do you measure it in? | The use of force to move an object. You measure it in Joules. |
What is power? | The ability to do something or act a certain way. |
What is Hertz? | The measurement of frequency. |
if your force was 20 newtons and work were 100 joules, what was your distance? | 100j= 20n x 5cm |
What is the formula for work? | Work= force x distance. |
What is the formula for power? | Power= work / time. |
Mechanical or electrical waves require medium. | Mechanical waves. |
The amount of energy in a mechanical wave is it's frequency or amplitude? | Amplitude. |
A medium or resting position is the material the wave travels through. | Medium. |
