emotional or subjective acting | when actors play their part in such a way that they will actually weep, suffer, or struggle emotionally in front of an audience |
technical or objective acting | a performance based on acting technique. |

antagonist | a villain/ bad guy, the person who opposes the protagonist. |

characterization | putting together all facet of a persons character to bring to life and interest into that character. |
Primary source | the observations of a persons posture, movement, habits, voice inflection, and mannerisms, to bring life to a character. |
secondary source | books and other material that help in devoloping characterization. |
body language | communication that uses gestures, postures, and facial expressions instead of words. |
mater gesture | a DISTINCTIVE action that is repeated and serves as a clue to a characters personality, such as a peculiar laugh or walk. |
inflection | modulation, variety in pitch |
subtext | the meaning "between the lines" that an actor must draw from the script. |
substitution | the use, by an actor, of a personal experience to relate with the experience of a character within a play |
improvisation | the impromptu portrayal of a character or scene without any rehersal or preparation. |
parapharasing | restating word that are not your own, into your own. |
