Question | Answer |
relate the structure of arteries to function | very big and thick-extremely muscular---> must push blood far distances, stand pressure of l vernticle, and high pressure of blood rushing out of heart |
relate structure of veins to function | thin walls, squished appearance, not very muscular--->walls need pushes from other muscles for blood to contract through-not close enough to heart for it to push so need help from muscles if the were as muscular+thick as arteries, couldnt contract. valves |
relate structure of capillaries to function | tiny web, extreeeemly thin(1cell thick!)--->oxygen, glucose and carbon dioxide have to be able to diffuse throught the walls in and out of cells. they are so small, blood cells travel 1@a time to give time for diffusion to take place. |
aorta | the biggest artery, right out of heart, pumps oxygenated blood all over body |
vena cava(upper and lower) | pump deoxygenated blood back to the lungs from all over the body |
coronary arteries | pump oxygenated blood to the cells of the heart |
oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange process | in cappillaries, oxygen and glucose diffuses into cells so it can be changed into energy by cellular respiration. The waste product of c.r. is co2 which diffuses out of cells into cappilaries to go back 2 lungs. |
follow the path of a blood vessel from the right- atrium back. | right atrium-right ventricle-pulmonary artery-lungs-pulmonary vein, left atrium, left ventricle, aorta, sml artys, cappilaries, sml vns, vena cava, right atrium |
gas exchange in the lungs | deoxygenated blood comes from the pulm. artery and is dropped off in lungs, there co2 is removed and oxygen is collected, then heads to pulm. vein back to heart |
