Population | the number of people who live in a specific area |
Birth Rate | the number of births per 1000 people per year |
Death Rate | the number of deaths per 1000 people per year |
Rate of Natural Increase | the death rate subtracted from the birth rate |
Population density | The average number of people who live in a certain area |
Urbanization | The process of city development |
Demographer- | a geographer who studies the characteristics of human populations |
habitable lands | lands suitable for human living |
Urban | relating to or located in a city |
Rural | relating to the country or farming |
Migration | The process of relocating to a new region |
Immigrant | a person who leaves one area to settle in another |
Push Factors | a reason people leave an area |
Pull Factor | a reason that attracts people to another area |
Culture | the shared attitudes knowledge and behaviors of a group |
Diversity | Having many different ways to think or to do something or a variety of people |
Discrimination | actions that might be hurtful to an individual or a group. |
Refugee | a person who flees a place to find safety |
Persecution | cruel treatment on the basis of religion, race, ethnic group, nationality, political view, gender, or class. |
Natural Resources | something that is found in nature that is necessary or useful to humans |
Economy | a system for producing and exchanging goods and services among a group of people |
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) | the total value of all the good and services produced in a country in a year. |
Export | a product or resource sold to another country |
Imports | a product or resource that comes into a country |
Government | an Organization set up to make and enforce rules for a society |
Citizen | a person who owes loyalty to a country and receives its protection |
