Reticulospinal | 1st neuron: sup colliculus Bilateral postural & gross limb mvmnt muscs; responds to visual & auditory stim; anticipatory post adjustments & reaching; stepping pattern generators |
Medial vestibulospinal | 1st neuron: medial vestibular nucleus of pons Receives bilat head & neck movement & position info from vestibular organs & uses this info to control posture |
Lateral vestibulospinal | 1st neuron: lat vestibular nuc of pons (ipsilateral) Responds to gravity info; facilitates LMN's to extensors & inhibits LMN's to flexors in order to control LE posture |
medial corticospinal | 1st neuron: cerebral motor cortex Controls neck, shoulder, & trunk postural muscles |
lateral corticospinal | contralateral control of muscs for fine, distal, fractionated movements; crosses at pyramidal decussation to separate from medial cs; controls voluntary movements |
rubrospinal | contralateral control of UE flexors; crosses midline ant to tegmental decussation |
corticolbulbar/corticobrainstem | 1st neuron(s): motor cortex & frontal eye fields; project from CN nuclei in brainstem to face & muscs of face |
non-specific UMN "Emotional Motor System: | ceruleospinal tract (arousal, attention, memory, emotions, behavior, postural control, etc...) & raphespinal tract (acts to inhibit pain in sc) |
afferent visceral receptors from mouth | CN VII & IX; solitary nucleus in medulla |
afferent receptors from throat & gut | CN X; solitary nucleus |
afferent stretch receptors in bld vessels | info from periph nerves to SC- autonomic reflex w/ autonomic efferents |
afferent stretch receptors in GI tract | passes through autonomic ganglia, but does not synapse here; autonomic reflexes w/ autonomic efferents in SC |
