Diffusion | the movement of ideas, notions, and innovations |
Assimilation | the process by which an ethnic culture is taken over by a dominant popular culture |

Hearth | region from which innovative ideas originate |
Habit | repetitive act of an individual |
Custom | repetitive act of a group |
Trait | a distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person |
Material Culture | is the physical evidence of a culture in the objects and architecture they make, or have made |
Nonmaterial Culture | thoughts or ideas that make up a culture |
Enclave | a distinct territorial or cultural or ethnic area that is within a foreign territory |
Relocation Diffusion | the spread of an idea through physical movement of people from one place to another |
Hierarchical Diffusion | the spread of an idea from persons or nodes of authority or power to other persons or places |
Contagious Diffusion | the rapid, widespread diffusion of a characteristic throughout the population |
Universalizing Religions | religions that seek to gain converts |
Ethnic Religions | religions that do not seek to gain converts. Often found amongst folk cultures |
Interfaith Boundaries | boundaries between the world's major faiths, such as Christianity, Muslim, and Buddhism |
