Term | Definition |
Constant of porportionality | factor of proportionality: the constant value of the ratio of two proportional quantities x and y; usually written y = kx, where k is the factor of proportionality. |
Direct Variation | mathematical relationship between two variables that can be expressed by an equation in which one variable is equal to a constant times the other. |
Linear Equation | an equation between two variables that gives a straight line when plotted on a graph. |
Point-slope form | The equation of a straight line in the form y - y 1 = m ( x - x 1 ). |
Slope-intercept form | A linear equation is an algebraic equation in which each term is either a constant or the product of a constant and a single variable. |
Rate of change | The speed at which a variable changes over a specific period of time. |
Slope | a surface of which one end or side is at a higher level than another; a rising or falling surface. |
x-intercept | the point at which the line crosses the x axis. |
y-intercept | Where a straight line crosses the Y axis of a graph. |
Unit Rate | the ratio of two measurements in which the second term is 1. |
Proportional relationship | relationships between two equal ratios. |
Intersecting Lines | The point where two lines meet or cross. |
