Term | Definition |
stoichiometry | chemistry calculations that deal with the amount of substances in chemical reactions |
mole ratio | a ratio between any two substances in a chemical reaction using the coefficients from the balanced reaction equation |
limiting reactant | the reactant that is used up first during a chemical reaction; the reactant that determines the amount of product that can form in a reaction |
excess reactant | the reactant that is left over at the end of a chemical reaction |
theoretical yield | the maximum amount of product that could form in a chemical reaction, calculated from the balanced chemical reaction equation |
actual yield | the amount of product that forms when a chemical reaction is carried out in a laboratory |
percent yield | the ratio of the actual yield to the theoretical yield for a chemical reaction; a measurement of the efficiency of a reaction |
