Word | Definition |
prehistoric | the time before the written word was available |
pre-Columbian | having do with time before Columbus reached the Americas |
archaeologist | person who studies prehistory by examininig the remains of animals and of people and things they left behind |
artifact | anything such as a bit of pottery, a knife, or remains of a building that people leave behind after they have lived somewhawere |
migration | the act of moving from one land to another. Usually used to refer to groups rather than individuals |
land bridge | a piece of land that connects two larger bodies of land |
nomad | a person with no permanent home who travels from place to place |
extinct | no longer living. Usually used in speaking of a whole group of plants or animals rather than one individual |
