absolute value | the distance of an integer from zero on a number line |
algebraic expression | an expression that includes at least one variable |
area | the number of square units needed to cover a surface with out any gaps or over laps |
base | a number used as a repeated factor |
base (geometry) | in two dimensions, one side of a triangle or a parallelogram which is used to help find the area |
box plot | a graph that shows how data are distributed using the median, quartiles, least value, and greatest value |
capacity | the amount a container can hold |
coefficient | a number that is multiplied by a variable |
common factor | a number that is a factor of two or more numbers |
composite figure | a figure that is made up of two or more simpler figures |
congruent | having the same size and shape |
Addend | a number that is added to give a sum. |
Integers | the positive and negative whole numbers. (whole numbers and their opposites) |
Decimal | another way of writing a fraction. |
Factors | numbers that are multiplied to give a product. |
Digits | whole numbers 0-9 which are used to make up all other numbers |
Quotient | the result when one number is divided by another. |
Numerator | the number in a fraction that tells how many equal parts of the whole are being considered |
GCF | the largest number that can be divided by two or more numbers evenly |
Divisor | the number the dividend is being divided by |
Reciprocals | two numbers which when multiplied equal a product of 1. |
Dividend | the number being divided in a division problem. |
Denominator | the number in a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole |
Benchmark | a familiar number used as a point of reference |
Prime factorization | a number written as the product of prime numbers. all |
Repeating decimal | a decimal representation of a number that has one or more digits that reappear infinitely. |
Equivalent fractions | fractions that name the same part and have the same value |
Simplest form | the numerator and denominator have only 1 as a common factor |
Terminating decimal | a decimal representation of a number that eventually ends. |
Mixed number | a number made up of a whole number and a fraction |
Natural/ counting numbers | the whole numbers greater than zero; beginning with 1 |
Multiple | the whole numbers greater than zero; beginning with 1 |
Composite number | a number > 1 that has more than two whole-number factors |
Prime number | a number that has only two factors, 1 and itself |
