What are some long term benefits of play? | It fosters INDEPENDENCE and SELF-ESTEEM, and develops children's RESPECT AND SOCIAL INTERACTION. Supports WELLBEING, GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT, and increases child's KNOWLEDGE & CREATIVE CAPACITY. |
What should outdoor play spaces provide? | Places to hide, small secret places, places with vegetation and living creations, and to be able to do BIG things, like being loud, climbing, jumping, etc. |
What makes an outdoor space special? | It provides SENSORY STIMULATION, PHYSICAL OPPORTUNITIES, and MAGICAL/MYSTICAL/SPIRITAL places. |
What is the nature of outdoor play? | It permits MESSIER, LOUDER, and LARGER activies, and affords the development of PEER CULTURE. Furthermore, it affords sensory stimulus and different social skills, such as complex language, bold, assertive interactions. |
What is crucial for outdoor spaces? | VARIETY! It should have a balance of fixed/portable equipment, travelling routes and flat spaces, mixing of age groups, open functional spaces, sheltered enchanted spaces, and places "TO DO" and "TO BE". |
