Ableism | Discrimination against people with disabilities. |
Allness | The assumption that all can be known or said about a given person, issue, object or event. |
Assertiveness | A willingness to stand up for your rights but with respect for the rights of others. |
Ageist language | Language that discriminates based on the age of the person. |

Disconfirmation | The process by which someone ignores or denies the right of another individual. |
Indiscrimination | Categorizing people, events or objects into a particular class and respond to them only as members of that class. |
Heterosexist language | Language that defames lesbians and gay men. |
Lie bias | The assumption that the person is most likely lying. |
Lying | The act of sending messages with the intention of giving another person information you believe to be false. |
Negative face strategies | Messages that recognizes a person's right to autonomy. |
Politeness | Civility, consideration, refinement, respect, and regard for others as expressed verbally and nonverbally. |
Polarization | A form of false reasoning in which only two extremes are considered (black/white, either/or) |
Positive face strategies | Messages that compliment and praise another. |
Rejection | A response to an individual that acknowledges the person but expresses disagreement. |
Truth bias | The assumption most people operate under that the messages they hear are truthful. |
Sexist language | Language derogatory to members of one gender, generally women. |
Racist language | Language that denigrates, demeans, or is derogatory toward members of a particular ethnic group. |
Verbal messages | Messages that are sent using words. |
