Term | Definition |
positive integer | a natural number or a whole number |
rational number | a real number that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers, in other words, a number that can be expressed as a fraction |
irrational number | a real number that CANNOT be expressed as a fraction |
integer | zero, the natural numbers, and their opposites (negatives) |
whole number | zero and the natural numbers |
natural number | 1, 2, 3, on to infinity (the counting numbers) |
prime number | a number that has exactly two factors: 1 and itself |
linear equation | an algebraic rule of the first degree ( the solution, when graphed, forms a straight line) |
