positive integer a natural number or a whole number
rational number a real number that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers, in other words, a number that can be expressed as a fraction
irrational number a real number that CANNOT be expressed as a fraction
integer zero, the natural numbers, and their opposites (negatives)
whole number zero and the natural numbers
natural number 1, 2, 3, on to infinity (the counting numbers)
prime number a number that has exactly two factors: 1 and itself
linear equation an algebraic rule of the first degree ( the solution, when graphed, forms a straight line)
