equations | equations are number sentences. they have a left hand side and a right hand side that are equal and equal sign.

using pro numerals | pro numerals are a letter in an equation that represents an unknown quantity. it is usually and x or y but any letter can be used. the value of the unknown pro numeral is known as the solution it is solved using backtracking.
