plate | a huge block of Earth's crust
🗑
weathering | a process that breaks down rocks into small pieces
🗑
Things that cuase weathering | ice, wind, rain, living things (lichens)
🗑
Ring of Fire | Around the rim of the Pacific Ocean where there is a string of volcanoes and earthquakes. 80% of the world's active volcanoes and earthquakes occur at this ring.
🗑
atmosphere | The layer of gases, including oxygen, that surrounds our Earth. It is needed for life to exist here.
🗑
more than 70% | This is the amount of the Earth that is water; lakes, rivers, seas, oceans.
🗑
landforms | Shapes and types of land
🗑
mountains | Rise more than 2,00 ft (610 meters)above sea level or the surrounding flat lands.
🗑
hills | Rounded tops that rise above sea level but are lower and less steep than mountains.
🗑
plateau | Large mostly flat area that rises above its surrounding land. At least one side has a steep slope.

plains | Large areas of flat or gently rolling land.
🗑
magma | Molten rock that pushes up to form volcanoes
🗑
earthquakes | This is created when blocks of crust, or plates, slide sideways against each other.
🗑
volcano | This is formed when an ocean crust collides with a continental crust and the ocean crust goes under and melts into magma.
🗑
faults | Cracks that are formed when two plates push against each other, break and splinter because of the pressure.
🗑
Pangaea | The huge continent that geographers think the Earth was 200 million years ago.
🗑
