SCIENTIFIC METHOD   A method of investigation involving observation and theory to test scientific hypotheses.

HYPOTHESIS   A scientific idea about how something works, before the idea has been tested.

INDEPENDENT VARIABLE   A condition that is manipulated to test for a response in an experiment. It is not effected by other factors in the experiment.

DEPENDENT VARIABLE   An observed variable in an experiment. Changes in the dependent variable are reliant on one or more independent variables.

EXPERIMENTAL CONTROL   An experimental control is used to prevent and minimize unintended influences from other variables in the experiment.

DENSITY   A measure of the amount of matter contained in a given volume.  
🗑
PERCENT ERROR   A measurement of how far off a given value is from the accepted value.

SIGNIFICANT FIGURES   A way of describing the accuracy of a number or measurement.
