SCIENTIFIC METHOD | A method of investigation involving observation and theory to test scientific hypotheses. |
HYPOTHESIS | A scientific idea about how something works, before the idea has been tested. |
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE | A condition that is manipulated to test for a response in an experiment. It is not effected by other factors in the experiment. |
DEPENDENT VARIABLE | An observed variable in an experiment. Changes in the dependent variable are reliant on one or more independent variables. |
EXPERIMENTAL CONTROL | An experimental control is used to prevent and minimize unintended influences from other variables in the experiment. |
DENSITY | A measure of the amount of matter contained in a given volume. |
PERCENT ERROR | A measurement of how far off a given value is from the accepted value. |
SIGNIFICANT FIGURES | A way of describing the accuracy of a number or measurement. |
