Molecular Formulas: Process
Answer
Molecular Formula   Chemical formula indicates the type and the number of atoms in a molecule. Subscripts are actual numbers of atoms per molecule (P4O10= 4 mole P and 10 mole O). Multiply empirical subscripts by n to get molecular subscripts
🗑
Molecular formula   = n (Empirical Formula)
🗑
n=   Molar Mass of compound/Empirical Formula Mass
🗑
Molecula formula = 2 (P2O5)   = P4O10
🗑
Molecular Formula from Empirical Formula and Molar Mass: Step 1   Convert each mole of element from Empirical Formula to mass
🗑
Molecular Formula from Empirical Formula and Molar Mass: Step 2   Empirical Formula Mass is the total mass of all elements
🗑
Molecular Formula from Empirical Formula and Molar Mass: Step 3   Determine "n" by dividing the Molar Mass by the Empirical Formula Mass
🗑
Molecular Formula from Empirical Formula and Molar Mass: Step 4   Round "n" to the nearest whole number
🗑
Molecular Formula from Empirical Formula and Molar Mass: Step 5   Molecular Formula = n x Empirical Formula

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
