| Statistical Power | the probability that a given experiment will find an effect of the IV on the DV given that an effect exists

| Why should an experiment have high statistical power? | to prevent type II errors

| Correlation Between IV Levels | only affects power in w/in subject designs; higher correlation between the IV levels gives more power

| Variability in the DV | lower variability gives more power

| Effect Size | the magnitude of the effect the IV has on the DV; larger effect size gives more power
