Term
Definition
Model   A system or thing used as an example to follow or imitate.
🗑
Atom   A basic unit of a chemical element.
🗑
Nucleus   The positively charged central core of an atom, consisting of protons and neutrons and containing nearly all its mass.
🗑
Proton   A stable subatomic particle occurring in all atomic nuclei, with a positive electric charge equal in magnitude to that of an electron but of opposite sign.
🗑
Electron   A stable subatomic particle with a charge of negative found in all atoms.
🗑
Atomic Number   Number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
🗑
Atomic Symbol   The number of protons or electrons normally found in an atom
🗑
Nuclear Symbol   Shows the chemical symbol, the mass number and the atomic number of the isotope
🗑
Chemical Symbol   Symbols in the periodic table.
🗑
Subatomic Particle   Particle smaller than an atom.
🗑
Molecule   a group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
🗑
Lewis Structure   Diagrams that show the bonding between atoms of a molecule and the lone pairs of electrons that may exist in the molecule.
🗑
Bohr Model   Electrons orbit the nucleus at set distances.
🗑
Electron Shell   The electrons in the outermost occupied shell (or shells) determine the chemical properties of the atom; it is called the valence shell. Each shell consists of one or more subshells, and each subshell consists of one or more atomic orbitals.
🗑
Valence Electron   An electron that is associated with an atom, and that can participate in the formation of a chemical bond; in a single covalent bond, both atoms in the bond contribute one valence electron in order to form a shared pair.
🗑
Matter   That which occupies space and possesses rest mass

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
