reference map   shows the location of the geographic areas which display boundaries, names, physical features such as roads, railroads, coastlines, rivers and lakes

GPS   Short for Global Positioning System used to determine latitude, longitude, and elevation

GIS   Short for Geographic Informational System gets hardware, soft, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geography

inset map   a small map set within a larger map, might show a more detailed, smaller part of the map

legend   an explanatory table or list of the symbols on a map or chart

latitude   the angular distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator

longitude   the angular distance of a place east or west of the meridian

equator   The imaginary circle around earth's surface, same distance from the poles and perpendicular to the earth's axis. It divides the earth into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
