Equator | Imaginary line that divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemispheres. It runs east to west at 0 degrees.

Prime Meridian | Imaginary line that divides the Earth into the eastern and western hemispheres. It runs north to south from pole to pole at 0 degrees.

Lines of Latitude | Imaginary lines that measure degrees north and south of Equator.

Lines of Longitude | Imaginary lines that measure degrees east and west of the Prime Meridian.

Tropic of Cancer | Line of Latitude at approximately 23.5 degrees North of the Equator.

Tropic of Capricorn | Line of Latitude at approximately 23.5 degrees South of the Equator.

Scale | Part of a map that shows relative distances. For example, on a given map one inch on the map may mean 100 miles on the Earth.

Legend | Part of a map that explains what different symbols means.

Compass Rose | Part of the map that shows directions. Always includes the four cardinal directions, North, South, East, and West. May also include intermediate directions, such as northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest.
