Trademarks   A type of intellectual property right; they are used to distinguish the goods and services of one company from another (e.g., slogan, name of product).

Public Domain   Material that may be used by anyone without restriction. Relates to the duration of copyright material (life of creator + 50 years)

Moral Rights   Rights of the author/creator of a certain work that exist for as long as the copyright in a work.

Performing Rights   The rights of the performer in a recorded performance (includes actors, authors, singers, musicians, etc).

Plagiarism   An act that challenges the idea of intellectual honesty (similar to cheating)

Fair Dealing   A Bill that provides educators the use of copyright materials for the purpose of education, provided that it is "fair" (e.g., it does not compete with the original work)

Blanket License   A license sold by SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers in Canada) of a given work; the licensing fees are then given back to the creators.
