Cluster M - Geographic Terms
| Term | Definition |

| butte | an isolated hill or small mountain with steep sides and a flat top |
| degree | a measure of distance equal to 1/360th of the earth's circumference |
| gulf | a large part of an ocean or sea that extends into land |
| latitude | a measurement of distance north and south of the equator expressed as degrees |
| equator | 0 degree latitude, divides the north and south hemispheres. |
| longitude | a measurement of distance east and west of an imaginary line running through Greenwich, England expressed as degrees. |
| Prairie | a large, level part of land. |
| Rapids | usually a shallow part of a river with a fast current |
| River delta | a wide, mouth of a river with rich soil |
| swamp | a wet, spongy land sometimes partially underwater |
| Bay | an extension of a sea or ocean into the land. |
| Canal | a human made waterway |
| Cape | a point of land projecting into a sea or ocean. |
| Desert | an arid (dry) region that receives little precipitation (rain, snow, hail, cats, dogs) |
| Glacier | a huge mass of ice originating from compacted snow |
| Isthmus | A narrow strip of land connecting two larger land masses. |
| Legend | A series of symbols and their meanings describing features of a map. |
| Peninsula | A long projection of land into water, connected to the mainland by an isthmus |
