QuestionAnswer
compass rose A symbol on a map to show cardinal directions; north, south, east, and west.
key or legend A box on a map to show the meaning of the symbols on the map.
map scale A design on a map to show cardinal directions; north, south, east, and west.
physical map A map showing land elevation, water depth and naturally made landmarks.
political map A map showing the lines of the boundaries of countries, states, or territories.
equator Imaginary line that divides the earth surface in half which forms the northern and southern hemispheres.
prime meridian Imaginary line that divides the earth surface in half which forms the eastern and western hemisphere.
hemisphere Half of the earth's surface. Created by the equator and prime meridian.
map grid coordinates A system of lines, numbers and letters to help locate a particular point on a map.
map scale A line found in the key or legend to measure distance on the map.
continent Large land mass of the earth.
country Continents are divided into nations or territories.
state A country maybe divided as smaller areas of land consisting of cities and surrounding territories.
