| Word | Definition |

| windward | side of a mountain that receives a lot of precipitation |
| Arid(desert) | this area receives less than 10 inches of rain per year; Kalahari, Sahara, Gobi |
| Tundra | very cold climate region; located on the northern fringe of the continents; only scrubby plants and moss grow here because it is too cold for trees to grow |
| Typhoons | tropical storms occurring in the Pacific Ocean |
| Low Latitudes | The Equator can be found in this climate zone |
| Hurricanes | Tropical storms occurring in the Atlantic Ocean |
| Leeward | the dry side of the mountain |
| Subarctic | taiga trees can be found in this climate region; severe snowy winters; a frozen desert |
| Tropical wet (rainforest) | found on Equator; hot all year; 100+ inches of rain per year |
| North Atlantic Drift | ocean current responsible for warming the coastal areas of Western Europe |
| Mediterranean | mild, rainy winters; located near its namesake |
| High latitudes | Subarctic, tundra, and polar ice cap climates can be found here |
| tornadoes | these occur often in the United States |
| Marine West Coast | cool summers, warm winters that are influenced by ocean water and ocean currents; common climate region in coastal areas of Western Europe |
