| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| The breakdown of rock at or near the earth's surface | Weathering |
| When rock is actually broken or weakened physically | Mechanical Weathering |
| Alters a rock's chemical makeup by changing the minerals that form the rock, or combining them with new elements. | Chemical Weathering |
| Chemicals in the polluted air combine with water vapor and fall back to earth | Acid Rain |
| Is the movement of weathered materials such as gravel, soil, and sand. | Erosion |
| Water expands when it freezes, the ice widens the crack and eventually splits the rock | Frost Wedging |
| One of the major causes of erosion, expecially in areas with little water and few plants to hold soil in place. The Dust Bowl was an example. | Wind Erosion |
