Climate and Weather and Why Do Temperatures Differ?

| Weather | Conditions in the air and sky at a certain time and place |
| Climate | Average weather of a place over many years |
| Precipitation | Water that falls to the ground as rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
| Temperature | Measure of how hot or cold the air is. |
| Climates are different because different places get different amounts of what? | Direct sunlight |
| Polar Zones are also called | High Latitudes |
| Tropics are also called | Low Latitudes |
| Temperate Zones are also called | Middle Latitudes |
| Polar Zone climate | Always cool or cold |
| Tropics climate | Always warm or hot |
| Temperate Zone climate | All four seasons |
| Where are the Polar Zones? | North of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle. |
| Where are the Tropics? | Between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn |
| Where are the Temperate Zones? | In between the Tropics and the Polar Zones |
| As altitude increases… | Temperature goes down |
