| Term | Definition |

| River | a large stream of moving water that flows into another body of water. |
| Source | the place where a river begins, usually in the mountains. |
| Mouth | the place where a river ends by flowing into a larger body of water. |
| Tributary | a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger river. |
| Lake | a body of water surrounded by land. |
| Delta | a flat, triangle-shaped area of land made of soil where a river meets the sea or ocean. |
| Gulf | a large part of the sea or ocean that cuts into the land. |
| Bay | a part of the sea or lake that is partly surrounded by land and smaller than a gulf. |
| Sea | a smaller body of salt water that is part of an ocean. |
| Mountain Range | a chain or group of mountains connected together. |
| Valley | a low area of land between mountains or hills. |
| Plain | a large, flat area of land. |
| Peninsula | land that is surrounded by water on three sides. |
| Cape | a piece of land that sticks out into the water. |
| Island | land that is completely surrounded by water. |
