| human geography | study of the world's people, communities, and landscapes |
| cartography | Science of making maps |
| meteorology | study of weather and What causes it |
| absolute location | specific description of where a place is |
| relative location | general description of Where a place is |
| environment | an area's land, Waters plants and animals, and other spherical features |
| map | flat drawing shows part of Earth's surface |
| globe | spherical model of the entire planet |
| GIobal Positioning System (GPS) | tool that uses satellites to transmit locations of objects on Earth |
| Georaphic Information System (GIS) | information from many geographic data sources |
| grid | imaginary lines that circle Earth in east-west and north-south directions |
| latitude | east-west lines in the grid |
| longitude | north- south lines in the grid |
| meridians | lines on Longitude |
| degrees | units of measurement that locate lines of latitude and longitude |
| minutes | unit of measurement that is 1/60 of a degree |
| equator | imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the North and South Poles |
| Prime meridian | imaginary line that devides the globe into east and West halves |
| hemispheres | northern and southern or eastern and western halves of the globe |
| continents | seven large landmasses on Earth's surface |
| map projections | work that our round planet can be shown on the flat map |
