| plain | area of level land, usually at low elevations and often covered with grasses |
| isthmus | narrow stretch of land connecting two larger land bodies |
| strait | narrow stretch of water joining two larger bodies of water |
| island | land area, smaller than a continent, that is completely surrounded by water |
| peninsula | body of land jutting into water(typically lake or ocean), surrounded by water on 3 sides |
| continent | one of the seven large landmasses on Earth, surrounded by the four oceans |
| lines of longitude | imaginary lines that circle the earth from pole to pole |
| lines of latitude | imaginary lines that circle the earth parallel to the equator and measure distance away from the equator in degrees(north or south) |
| Prime Meridian | 0 degrees, line of longitude that splits the earth into the Eastern and Western hemispheres, runs through Greenwich, England |
| Equator | 0 degrees latitude, line of latitude that splits the earth into two half spheres (North Pole is at 90 degrees North) |
| hemisphere | literally half of a sphere, or half of the earth |
