| Cardinal directions | The four main directions North, South, East, and West. |
| Intermediate directions | The directions between the compass rose. |
| parallel | Imaginary lines that divide the Earth. |
| Prime meridian | The line of 0 degrees Longitude. |
| Compass rose | A symbol on a map that shows the Cardinal directions. |
| Meridians | An imaginary circle on the Earth's surface passing through the North and South poles. |
| Map scale | The relationship between the distance on a map and the corresponding distance on Earth. |
| Insert map | A map that shows a larger area in context to a smaller area. |
| Grid | A network of evenly spaced horizontal or vertical lines used to identify locations on the map. |
| Map key | inset on the map that explains the symbols, provides a scale, and usually identifies the type of map projection used. |
| Equator | An imaginary line in the middle of the planet or celestial body. |
| Map title | Tells what the map is about, revealing the map's purpose and context. |
