Middle ages

Middle Ages a period that lasted from about 500 to 1500 in Europe.
Medieval Referring to the middle ages.
Pope The head of a catholic church, official title of the pope is bishop of Rome.
Monks A religious man who lived apart from society in an isolated community.
Monasteries A community of monks.
Charlemagne Charles the Great
Feudalism A system in which a lord can give land exchange for loyalty.
Manor A large estate owned by a knight or a lord.
Tenant rented from a landlord.
Vassal A noble who provided support in exchange for land.
Knights A warrior in medieval Europe who fought on horseback in medieval Europe.
Serf A worker in medieval Europe who was tied to the land on which he or she lived.
Chivalry The code of honorary behavior for medieval knights.
Bubonic plague A plague caused by the bite of an infected flea.
Crusades A long series of wars between Christains and Muslims in southwest Asia fought for control of the holy land from 1096 to 1291.
Crusader a fighter in the medieval Crusades.
Holy Land the region on the eastern shore of the mediterranean sea where Jesus lived, preached, and died.
Magna Carta A document signed in 1215 by King John of England that required the king to honor certain rights.
Parliament The lawmaking body that governs England.
