Environment and Resources
| Term | Definition |

| Natural Resource | A useful material found in the environment |
| Renewable Resource | A resource that natural forces or people can replace in a relatively short time |
| Nonrenewable Resource | A resource that cannot be replaced, or can be replaced only over millions of years |
| Fossil Fuel (definition) | Formed over millions of years from the remains of plants an animals |
| Examples of Renewable Resources | Water, plants, animals |
| Examples of Nonrenewable resources | Minerals, metal ores, fossil fuels |
| Examples of Fossil Fuels | Coal, natural gas, petroleum (crude oil) |
| Examples of renewable energy sources | Wind and sunlight |
| Problem(s) with nonrenewable resources | Once they are used they are gone; Earth will eventually run out of them |
| Deforestation | The loss of forest cover in a region |
| Biodiversity | The number of types of living things in a region or ecosystem |
| Pollution | Waste that makes the air, soil, or water less clean |
| Spillover | An effect on someone or something not involved in an activity that brought about that effect |
