Urbanisation Glossary

industrialisation the shift towards goods being produced in factories
informal settlement without regulation or legal status. e.g. slum
infrastructure structures provided to improve lives. e.g. transport, schools, hospitals and water supply
megacity city with a population over 10 million
natural increase the birthrate is higher than the death rate
push & pull factors influences that attract people or draw them away from places
urban growth increase in the number of people living in urban places
urban sprawl continuous outward spread of settlements
urbanisation increase in the proportion of people living in an urban place
