South America vocabulary

| Terrace | strips of leveled land built into the hillside that are planted with crops |
| Nomads | people who move from place to place, usually in search of food and resources |
| Domesticate | tame plants and animals for human use |
| Civilization | the level of development at which people live together peacefully in communities |
| Culture | a pattern of behavior shared by a group of people made up of food, language, clothing, tools, music, arts, customs, beliefs, and religion |
| Migrate | the movement of people from one area to another |
| Ecosystems | made up of all the living and nonliving things in an area; includes all plants, animals and other living things that make up the communities of life in an area |
| Agriculture | farming; includes both growing and harvesting crops and raising animals/livestock |
| Irrigation | the movement of water from one place to another to grow crops |
| Artifacts | a human-made object which gives information about the culture of its creator and users |
| Empire | a group of territories that are under the control of the same leader or government |
| Territories | a geographical area under the rule of a government |
| Pampas | wide, treeless plains of South America |
| Patagonia | a sparsely populated region at the southern end of South America |
| States | a politically organized territory |
