| Coastal erosion | the removal of sediment and rocks along the coastline due to the action of waves, currents, tides, wind-driven water, waterborne ice, or storm impacts |
| Shore platforms | flat to gently sloping rocky surface found at the base of a sea cliff created by erosion |
| Horizontal shore platform | A shore platform with a slope of 0° |
| Sloping platforms | A shore platform with a slope between 1°-5° |
| Plunging cliffs | lack any development of shore platforms |
| Headland | an area of hard rock that extends to the shoreline and sits at a higher elevation than the shoreline |
| Notches | develop through undercutting of steep coastal slopes |
| Potholes | roughly cylindrical or bowl-shaped depressions in shore platforms formed by grinding induced by the swirling of sand, gravel, and pebbles |
| Sea caves | a hollow excavated by waves in a zone of weakness on a cliff (bedding planes, joints, faults) |
| Blowholes | upward erosion in a sea cave by spraying water from crashing waves erodes through the roof of a cave |
| Sea gorge | narrow, steep-sided opening developed by erosion along vertical fault planes or joints |
| Arches | waves crash on both sides of a narrow cliff that protrudes out into the sea forming an opening through the base |
