Map Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Absolute Location Describes the location of a place based on a fixed point on earth. The most common way is to identify the location using coordinates such as latitude and longitude.
Distortion A change in shape, size, or position of a place when it is shown on a map.
Map Projection A way of representing the spherical (sphere shaped object) Earth when shown on a flat surface
Relative Location Where a place is located in relation to another place.
