Geography Definition

Geography The study of physical features of the Earth as well as the atmosphere and of human interaction
Map A flat representation of a part of Earth
Cartographer Map makers
Atlas A book of maps
Globe A model of the Earth with the least distortion
Aerial Photography Photographs taken from the sky and used to take measurements or make maps
Satellite Photography Photographs like aerial photographs but taken from space
Information Graphics Visual symbols of data
GIS Geography Information System; used to store, manage, and analyze data
Physical Map Shows the features of an area , such as mountains, rivers, and lakes. Usually uses color.
Road Map Shows major highways, airports, cities, railroad tracks, and local points of interest
Political Map Shows countries, borders, or major cities
Climate Map Shows the average weather of a region
Topography Map Includes contour lines to show the elevation or height of an area
Resource Map The distribution of various resources (minerals, lumber, agriculture)
