| Cultural region | Area that shares similar cultural traits |
| Cultural diffusion | The process of spreading new knowledge and skills to other cultures |
| Death rate | Number of people out of 1,000 who die in a year |
| Birthrate | Number of children born each year for every 1,000 people |
| Famine | Lack of food |
| Population density | Average number of people living in a square mile |
| Migrate | People moving from one country to another |
| Emigrate | To LEAVE a country |
| Immigrate | To move INTO a NEW country |
| Natural resources | Products of the earth that people use to meet their needs |
| Renewable resources | Resources that cannot be used up; wind, water, sun |
| Nonrenewable resources | Resources that cannot be replaced; oil, natural gas, coal, minerals |
