Eathquake definition

TermDefinition
Focus Point where earthquake begins.
Epicentre The point on the earths surface directly above the focus.
Transform boundary When two plates slide across each other.
Divergent boundary's When two plates move apart due to convection currents.
Magnitude A measure of an earthquake's strength, based on the wave motion and the energy released.
Tsunami A giant wave caused by an underwater earthquake.
Richter scale Magnitude of earthquake is measured on a Richter scale.
Liquefaction When clay and sands mix with groundwater during an earthquake.
Seismology Study of earthquakes.
Subduction zone Where one plate subducts under the other due to it being heavier.
Earthquake A sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.
