| dialect | A regional variety of a language. |
| commonwealth | A nation that governs itself, but is part of a larger country. |
| refugee | Someone who flees to another country, usually for political or economic reasons. |
| Havana | The capital of Cuba. |
| cooperative | An organization owned by its members and operated for their mutual benefit. |
| Caribbean Sea | An arm of the Atlantic Ocean between North and South America. |
| Greater Antilles | An island group in the Caribbean that includes Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico. |
| Lesser Antilles | A group of small islands in the Caribbean; they stretch from the Virgin Islands in the north to Trinidad in the south. |
