| Refugee | a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster |
| Emigrant | a person who leaves their own country in order to settle permanently in another |
| Immigrant | a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country |
| Push Factor | a negative aspect or condition that motivates one to leave |
| Pull Factor | a benefit that attracts people to a certain place |
| Movement | the spread of ideas, goods, services, or people |
| Migration | movement from one place to another |
| Assimilation | a person or persons acquire the social and psychological characteristics of a group |
| Chain Migration | endless chains of foreign nationals who are allowed to immigrate |
| Ethnic Neighborhood | area with a much higher concentration of a particular ethnic or cultural group that doesn't dominate the area |
