| relative location | the regional position or situation of a place relative to the position of other places |
| cultural diffusion | The spread of ideas, customs, and technologies from one people to another |
| middle latitudes | the area approximately midway between the Equator and the North Pole or South Pole |
| Norther | icy wind that blows in quickly from the North |
| elevation | height of land above sea level |
| source | the place where a river or stream begins, often in highlands |
| mouth | place where a stream or river flows into a larger body of water |
| environment | the area in which something exists or lives; the surroundings |
| geography | the study of the spatial aspects of earth and the people who live on it |
| plain | a landform that generally is level |
| barrier island | An island that protects the main body of land from ocean waves |
| savanna | grassland with scattered trees and drought-resistant undergrowth |
| aquifer | An underground water reservoir |
| natural vegetation | plant life that grows naturally in a place; for Texas this includes forests, savannas, and grasslands |
