Geography lesson three

TermDefinition
Deserts A dry,arid area of land that receives less than 250mL of precipitation.
Cold Deserts Cold deserts are permanently frozen with long, cold winters and short, mild summers.
Arid A area is arid when it as severe lack of water and can not support plant life.
The rain shadow effect An area having relatively little precipitation due to the effect of a topographic barrier, especially a mountain range, that causes the prevailing winds to lose their moisture on the windward side, causing the leeward side to be dry
semi-arid support short or scrubby vegetation. on the way to becoming arid
Desertification is the degradation of a area. it loses its water and vegetation, therefore becoming a desert.
salinity is the saltiness or dissolved salt content of a body of water
