| What is sediment? | the smaller particles of rock, gravel sand and mud that weathering breaks rocks into |
| What is erosion? | the movement of surface material from one location to another, wind, water, and ice cause this to take place |
| What are glaciers? | thick masses of ice also erode rock and move sediment |
| What is a plateau? | an elevated flatland that rises sharply above nearby land on at least one side |
| What is an alluvial fan? | sediment eroded from a mountain to the base of the mountain |
| What is a delta? | accumulated sediment at the opening of an ocean |
| What is the core? | what is at the center of the earth, temperature and pressure are very high |
| What is a mantle? | Outside of the core is the mantle, which makes up most of the earth’s mass |
| What is crust? | The outer most of the earth’s layer it is about 25 miles thick |
| What is magma? | Liquid rock that is within the earth’s surface |
| What is lava? | Magma that has reached the earth’s surface |
| What is plate tectonics? | Explain how forces within the earth create land forms |
