Land forms that are present on Long Island
| Term | Definition |

| Island | A body of land surrounded on all sides by water. |
| Barrier Beaches | Narrow strips of land in the water. Example: Fire Island |
| Bay | A body of water that is connected to an ocean and partly enclosed by land. |
| Shore line | The land along an ocean. |
| North Shore | Hilly and rocky with many cliffs, coves and harbors. |
| South Shore | Flat and sandy. |
| Cliffs | High steep rocks that can be found on the North Shore. |
| Cove | A small bay surrounded by hills. |
| Harbor | A protected body of water here ships can anchor. |
| Sound | A long body of water that connects two large bodies of water.Example: East River is connected to the Atlantic ocean. |
| Glacier | Large masses of ice. |
| Peninsula | A piece of land that is surrounded by water on three sides. Example: Montauk Point |
| Erosion | The washing away of soil. |
