Basic Terms of Geography

TermDefinition
Bay a body of water with land around it but that is open to the sea on one side.
Canyon a deep valley with steep sides.
Cliff A very biiiiiig hole precipice
Desert A large area where it is hot and dry, no rain
Archipelago A group of islands
Forest A large area of trees
Hill A small mountain
Iceberg Floating mass of ice
Mountain A very big hill
Ocean A very large area of salt water.
Island A piece of land surrounded by water,
Hemisphere Half of the earth
Lake a large body of water surrounded by land
Plain A large area of flat land
River A large stream
